INTERCULTUAL IN THE SERVICE OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE CONTEXT OF MIGRATION
Right to health

Numerous studies demonstrate that migrant populations are more vulnerable than established populations in terms of health. Women in particular suffer more than men, both physically and psychologically.

Aware of this problem, the APDH has developed activities for women who are victims of problems caused by a complex migratory trajectory, violence, stigmatization or even rape as well as lack of knowledge of the language, computer tools, etc.

This is a subject that the APDH addresses with its users in the choice of themes for its round tables. She has been trying to offer alternatives to strengthen the body and mind since 2011.

Wellness movement

The “Movement and well-being” program is supported by the cantonal Department of Health and Mobility as well as by the City of Geneva, in particular by the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity and that of Security and Sports, as well as by private donors.

This program is made up of two parts:

On the one hand, participants can benefit from the following activities:

Yoga, stretching, back exercises and oriental Zumba sessions
Massage, relaxation and breathing techniques
Hikes in nature and on the banks of the Rhône
Sailing trips
Participation in sporting activities offered by the city of Geneva
The sessions are led by a professional coach who adapts to the requests of the participants.

Furthermore, the “Movement and well-being” program also includes workshops specifically devoted to health and prevention issues:

Women's health: breast cancer screening, pregnancy, sexuality, etc.
Adolescent health: periods, sex education, etc.
Family health: prevention of smoking and alcoholism, advice on how to eat healthily, how the digestive system works, etc.
The health sessions are led in the original language by facilitators and with interventions from external experts specializing in health issues.

Location of sessions:

These sessions took place at the Sécheron neighborhood space, our partner since 2012, as well as in different places in Geneva, such as parks, in nature, and in places where the City of Geneva, and in particular the Department of security and sports, develops activities, such as the Canopy among others. We also have a partnership with an association to organize sailing outings.
